Wx Bulletin / Privacy Policy (Android)
Wx Bulletin Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 19, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Android version of Wx Bulletin (the “App”), developed by Act Pet Projects LLC (“we,” “us,” or the “Developer”), handles information.
1. Summary
Wx Bulletin has no user accounts, advertising, third-party analytics, behavioral tracking, or third-party SDKs. We do not operate a backend server, user database, or account system for the App.
Weather requests are sent directly from your device to public weather-data services. We do not receive, monitor, or retain those requests.
Information reaches us only if you voluntarily send us a support email, or if Google provides aggregated diagnostic reports under your Android usage & diagnostics settings, as described below.
2. Developer-Controlled Systems
The Developer does not operate any server, database, or backend system for Wx Bulletin.
Accordingly, we do not have access to the locations you view, your saved or recent locations, your weather searches, the weather products you view, your device location, or your general use of the App.
The App does not create a user account, advertising identifier, installation identifier, device fingerprint, or similar persistent identifier.
3. Support Communications and Google Play Diagnostics
Support Email
If you select Report an Issue, the App opens your email client with a pre-filled message. Nothing is transmitted to us unless you choose to send the email.
If you send a support email, we receive the email address from which you send the message, the contents you choose to provide, and the App version, Android version, and device model displayed to you before sending. Your location, saved locations, and search history are not included.
We retain support correspondence only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your request and address the reported issue. You may request deletion of support correspondence by contacting us at the address below.
Google Play Diagnostics
If you have enabled usage & diagnostics in your Android settings, Google may make aggregated crash and performance reports (Android vitals) available to us through the Google Play Console. These reports are provided by Google rather than directly by the App, and are not linked by us to your identity. The App itself contains no crash-reporting or analytics SDK.
4. External Services
Wx Bulletin retrieves public weather data from services operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its components, including the National Weather Service (NWS), NWS/NCEP centers, and NOAA/NESDIS, as well as infrastructure used to distribute NOAA public data.
Base map tiles are retrieved from OpenStreetMap.
These services necessarily receive technical information required to process a network request, such as your IP address and the requested resource. For location-specific weather requests, they may also receive the coarsened coordinate described below. Such services may maintain network logs under their own policies.
Some public NOAA data may be delivered through third-party hosting infrastructure. We do not receive or have access to logs maintained by NOAA, NWS, their components, their hosting providers, or the OpenStreetMap Foundation.
5. Location Information
Wx Bulletin does not transmit your precise device location. The App requests only approximate location. It never requests precise location, and never uses background location.
Current Location
If you tap the my location control on the Map screen, the App requests a single approximate location fix from Android. Before using the coordinate in a network request, the App rounds it to two decimal places, corresponding to approximately 1.1 kilometers.
The rounded coordinate is then used for location-specific weather requests.
The App does not read location in the background, runs no background service, and does not track your movement.
Map Selection
If you select a location by tapping the map, the selected coordinate is subject to the same rounding process before being used in a weather request.
Location Search
Text-based location search is performed entirely on the device using a bundled U.S. Census Bureau Gazetteer.
Search text is not transmitted to a search server. For a searched place, the App uses the location contained in the bundled Gazetteer rather than your device location.
Transmission to Weather Services
Location-specific weather services require a geographic coordinate. Accordingly, the rounded coordinate may be included in a request sent directly from your device to the applicable public weather service.
We do not receive, retain, or have access to that coordinate.
6. Other Request Information
Requests may include the applicable Weather Forecast Office code and standard protocol information necessary to identify the App and process the requested content, including a descriptive application identifier required by the NWS API. This information does not include an installation identifier or other device-specific identifier.
7. Request Frequency and Caching
Wx Bulletin does not poll weather services on a fixed timer.
The App observes applicable source-server caching instructions and caches data accordingly to reduce unnecessary network requests.
8. Information Stored on Your Device
The following information may be stored locally in the App’s private storage:
- preferences and settings;
- favorites, section order, and hidden sections;
- your selected location and recent locations, including place name and coordinate;
- cached weather responses; and
- cached map tiles and a cached radar frame.
Recent locations may be deleted individually or cleared in the App.
Cached weather files may contain the full request URL and therefore may contain the rounded coordinate associated with the request. Cached data can be deleted through Settings > Data > Clear Cache.
The App does not write data to the clipboard and does not use an advertising identifier, installation identifier, or device fingerprint.
Wx Bulletin does not sync App data to any cloud service of its own. The App permits Android’s standard device backup, so if you have Google’s device backup enabled, Android may include the App’s locally stored preferences in that backup. Such backups are managed by Google under its own policies.
9. Permissions
The App requests exactly three permissions:
- Internet access — to retrieve weather products and map tiles from the services listed above;
- Network state — to check whether the device is online before making a request;
- Approximate location — optional; used only when you tap the my location control.
No other permissions are requested. You may decline location permission and continue to search for locations or select locations manually on the map.
Saving Images
When you choose Save to Photos, the App writes the image to your device’s shared Pictures collection using the system media library. This requires no storage permission and involves no network request. The App does not read or browse your existing photos.
The App does not request notification permission or access to your camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, or health data. It does not register for push notifications and does not run any background service.
10. Third Parties
Wx Bulletin contains no third-party SDKs for advertising, analytics, attribution, A/B testing, or third-party crash reporting. Its only third-party code dependencies are an open-source map-rendering library and an open-source application utility library, neither of which transmits data to its authors.
We do not sell, rent, or use personal information for advertising or behavioral tracking.
11. Google Play Data Safety Disclosure
The App transmits limited information in real time when necessary to fulfill a request, including the rounded location coordinate described above. Under Google Play’s definitions, data that leaves the device counts as collected, and our Data safety disclosure reflects that.
Those requests are sent directly from your device to the applicable public weather service. The Developer does not operate an intermediary server, does not receive those requests, does not have access to the receiving service’s logs, and does not retain a copy of the transmitted coordinate.
This Policy describes those transmissions so that you can understand what information leaves your device even where that information is not received or retained by the Developer.
12. Children’s Privacy
Wx Bulletin is not directed to children and contains no accounts, advertising, analytics, or social features through which the App collects personal information.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under any higher minimum age applicable in the relevant jurisdiction.
If you believe a child has sent us personal information through a support email, contact us and we will delete that correspondence as appropriate.
13. Your Choices and Data Deletion
You may:
- change or revoke location permission through Android Settings > Apps > Wx Bulletin > Permissions;
- delete recent locations individually or clear all recent locations;
- delete cached weather data through Settings > Data > Clear Cache;
- clear all App data through Android Settings > Apps > Wx Bulletin > Storage; and
- uninstall the App to remove data stored locally by the App from your device.
Except for support correspondence that you voluntarily send to us and any Google-provided aggregated diagnostics described above, we do not maintain a developer-controlled copy of your App data.
To request access to or deletion of support correspondence held by us, contact us at the address below.
14. EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, applicable data-protection law may provide rights concerning personal data held by us.
Because Wx Bulletin has no developer-operated user database or backend, the principal personal data we may hold about you is support correspondence that you voluntarily send.
For such information, Act Pet Projects LLC is the controller.
We process support correspondence for the legitimate interests of responding to your request, providing support, and investigating or correcting reported problems. We retain it only for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes.
Act Pet Projects LLC is based in the United States, and support correspondence may therefore be stored in the United States.
Location coordinates used for weather requests are transmitted directly from your device to the applicable public weather service and are not received or retained by us.
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or objection to our processing of personal data that we hold, and may exercise any applicable data-portability rights.
You may also lodge a complaint with your competent national data-protection authority or, in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner’s Office.
15. Changes to This Policy
If a future version of Wx Bulletin materially changes how information is handled, we will revise this Privacy Policy and update the date shown above.
